Description

A carcharodontosaurid theropod from the Barremian epoch of the Early Cretaceous.  It was a middle-sized theropod that could grow to about a length of 6 m (20 ft).  It was similar in appearance to other members of the family, save for an interesting feature: a hump that jutted up from the lower back.  It's unknown what purpose this "hump" would have served the animal.  Some suspect that it may have been used for visual display, which seems likely, though it is unknown if it was present in both sexes or not.  Another interesting feature, is that the ulna of the type specimen shows a series of bumps that may be bases to quills or feathers, though this has been disputed.  Either way, the Concavenator here is restored with speculative quills that may or may not be related to coelurosaurian feathers.
